What is B.Tech?

It is an undergraduate level programme for professional engineering training. To be eligible to seek admission to B.Tech colleges in India, the minimum qualification is to pass 10+2 level from any of the recognised boards in the stream of science. It is prerequisite for students to have PCM (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) as their subjects in their junior college. Apart from this, there is a provision for lateral entry to the B.Tech course for students holding a Diploma degree in any one of the engineering domains.

It is a four-year professional course that can be pursued from one of the many engineering colleges in India from the IITs to private engineering colleges. Some colleges offer their students B.E (Bachelor of Engineering) which is just another name for B.Tech. The syllabus and course curriculum for these colleges is the same across India.

The demand for engineering is so high, that the competition to get seats into one of the reputed colleges is extreme. With less seats for admission and more demand coupled with the difficulty of entrance examinations, only the best of the best can bag admission into the most reputed engineering colleges like IITs, NITs. Popular entrance examinations in India are JEE Mains for NITs, JEE Advanced for IITs, BITSAT for admission into BITS, and many others along with good grades in class 12 board examination. Every year, as close as thirteen to fifteen lakh students take up these entrance examinations with the dream to gain admission into one of the most reputed colleges.

Most B.Tech graduates sought to get a job in the government sector because of the attractive benefits and offers such as accommodation, job security, guaranteed promotions, and less stress. Unlike jobs in the MNC’s where one needs to work overtime and on weekends to ensure the projects are completed, government jobs have a higher stature  and many other rewarding perks that attract graduates to pursue a government job after their B.Tech. One needs to qualify and pass the cut off government entrance examinations to qualify for a job in the government sector.
