When we talk about the growing industries, 3D printing industry is marked as one of the growing industries of this era. Technology has helped this industry to evolve with some new materials for printing, leaving the old traditional printers behind. A 3 dimensional object can be created from a variant range of materials.
You will find a variety of 3D printing materials nowadays. These are plastics, metal, ceramics, papers, bio materials and food as well.
3D printing materials and its benefits
1. Plastics – This is the most commonly used material for 3D printing. There are different kinds of plastics used for 3 dimensional printing.
a. ABS – This is the most common form of plastic used in printing. It is strong in nature and is available in various colours. This material is available in the non-proprietary areas. This can be brought in the form of filaments.
b. PLA – This is the type of plastic which is environmental friendly as it is biodegradable in nature. This 3D printing material can be used in the form of filaments or in the form of resins.
These two types of material are best suitable for prototyping with low range of cost.
There are some other forms of plastics available for printing. These are nylon or polyamide, high impact polystyrene, laywood and laybrick, t-glase.
2. Metal – Metal holds the second place after plastic in 3D printing industry. Different forms of metal powder used are: - a. stainless steel,
b. gold or silver, c. titanium, and d. other metals.
3. Ceramics – This is a material with higher durability as compared to plastic or metal and is new in form.
4. Bio Materials – This material is mainly used for 3D printing in medical application.
These are few 3D printing materials; there are plenty of more printing materials available.
