When an individual or a group of individuals is considering distribution or wholesaling as a career option, they need to be allowed legally to carry out such an activity. Activity in this context could mean procuring of goods from the manufacturer, storage of those products in a warehouse, entering into selling contracts with dealers and retailers, and transporting the items from the warehouse to the storage units of the dealers, or the direct shops and stores of the retailers.

Thus, gathering a distribution license enables the distributor to be a part of the trade line in which they get the permission on a legal basis from the producer to sell their products on behalf of them, thus making it possible for the goods to reach the public.
